Post 12

Friendly February

Last week the girls enjoyed the Cheer Rally, good fun, and being good sports!
This was a wonderful opportunity for students to see the great leadership of the older girls and have an
exciting time as well.

We will be reviewing in mathematics this week and take the Unit 5 Assessment. The girls learned

how to do Lattice math, estimate large numbers and work out problems with Expanded and Exponential Notation.

Students are busy researching a country of their choice as a classroom
History Project. They have a complete checklist that they keep in their binders for easy reference, which will assist in focusing on the details of their paragraph writing. We continue to explore hemispheres and map grids in our geography explorations.

In language arts, the girls are learning about homophones, homographs, and memorizing
“good to know” spelling rules.

For Valentines Day, students will be creating a holder for their Valentines. This is a project that will be created at home and brought in to class for the upcoming Valentine’s Party that will be held on Friday, February 12th.

Post 10 Snowy Days

Post 10 Snowy Days

I hope you are having a great time during these snow days!
As you know, Friday was a Free Snow Day for 4-C. There is nothing like having a day to relax and play in the snow. The only thing you needed to accomplish was to take your Spelling Test and printing your certificate (if you have a printer). If you forgot, please take the test today.

You should have all you need for working on your second snow day. I sent home a packet with directions for Monday.
Here are the directions, just in case:

Snow Day Homework for 4-C

Friday:
1.    Please take the Words Their Way Spelling Blue/Green 12 Test. It can be taken on-line at Spelling City. Please print out a certificate, if you are able. If not, we can print it out when the girls get back to school. In the event the girls are without Internet, they should have a responsible adult dictate the test and bring it back to school.

The first Snow Day is a free day, with only the spelling test to be completed.

Monday:
1.    Spelling Words Blue/Green 13  Please write words using cursive writing in your homework journal. Then write them two times in your Spelling Journal. Don’t forget to head your pages.

        3. Daily Geography Handout:  Please do the Monday           questions.

            memorizing for Friday.

January

January
Now is here --
A fine new start
For a whole new year.
The snow comes down
In the dark of night.
When we awake
The world is white.
In January
When there's snow,
We get our sleds
And away we go.

5.  Look for gold/white cheer rally outfit items that you may already have. Set them somewhere, so that you can have them ready for the Cheer Rally on Fri. Jan. 29th.

6. Math Skills Practice  (Odds Only) If we are out on Tuesday, please do the evens also.

Post Let It Snow

LET IT SNOW

January is a great month for listening, learning and looking at the snowflakes drifting in the air. The girls and I ran out onto the green to enjoy our first flurry of snowflakes. It was exhilarating. Their wish for more snow looks like it will come true in the coming days.

Students are learning about abbreviations and reviewing personal and possessive pronouns. They are spending time working on these skills as they formulate their writing assignments and challenging themselves to incorporate even more of what they have learned.

The girls have completed the book, Number the Stars, and have begun A Year Down Yonder, by Richard Peck.  This novel tells the sweet story of a girl from Chicago, who goes to live with her grandmother, in a rural town during the depression.

In language arts, students are completing a creative writing piece entitled Her Acre of Land. The girls have presented orally to the class and will be completing an artistic representation this week.

Please note that all written assignments on your daughter’s google drive can be viewed with just the click of a button.

Students are putting together large numbers and learning lattice multiplication. They will be practicing basic multiplication facts for the 13's.
